Olympian and former Cal swimmer Missy Franklin announced over the weekend that she is engaged to Hayes Johnson, a fellow swimmer.
Franklin, 23, posted an Instagram photo from Georgia’s Lake Lanier Islands Resort, showing Johnson on bended knee. “Yes. Yes. Yes. A million times over. … I’m about to get my Johnson on!!!” she said in the caption.
Franklin grew up in the Denver area. At the 2012 Olympics, when she was 17, she won four gold medals and a bronze. After the Olympics, she accepted a scholarship to swim for the University of California, Berkeley.
Her performance at the 2016 Olympics was disappointing, and at the start of 2018 she left Cal for the University of Georgia, where she said she would study psychology and train for a swimming comeback.
Johnson, 28, grew up in Nashville, swam for the University of Texas as a backstroke specialist and participated in the 2008 and 2012 Olympic trials. He is president of a company based in North Carolina that makes an app for managing swim meets.
