You figured it would be just a matter of time for these love birds, right?
E! News reports that Kate Upton is now officially engaged to Detroit Tigers pitching ace Justin Verlander. The supermodel sported a gaudy engagement ring — for what was believed to be the first time in public — tonight at the 2016 Met Gala in New York.
Early photos from the event have Upton in a full-length silver evening gown, wearing a ring — reportedly designed by Verlander — but alone. Verlander and the Tigers are off tonight, but begin a three-game series in Cleveland on Tuesday.
“I’m really excited, he asked me right before season started so we’ve been keeping it on the down low for quite a while,” she said according E! News. “So I’m excited to finally be able to share it with the world.”
Upton, 23, born in St. Joseph, and Verlander, 33, in his 11th full season with the Tigers, met a few years ago while filming a video game commercial. They were first secretively together for a while before sharing their relationship with the world, especially via social media.
In their three-or-so years as a couple, Upton’s star has continued to rise, annually gracing the pages of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue and as the advertising face of countless products. Meanwhile, injury and age has dogged Verlander the last few seasons, yet it’s believed his finally fully healthy this season. However, in five starts this season, he’s 2-2 with a 5.46 ERA.
Upton is a frequent visitor of Tigers games, both on the road and at Comerica Park.
